Plans for this Post

The first thoughts are I wish we had started a blog many years ago, but guess now is a good time as any.

I (Jim) am anywhere from 2-6 years from retirement (that's me with the ball cap turned backwards to look cool) --and as you will see-- already planning and executing our escape from fantasy to reality:). We are doing all of this on a modest income so hopefully most anyone reading this can relate. 

Current Plans
Sell our house Spring 2015 and become full-time RVrs while in the Portland-Vancouver area; and slowly transition to Sayulita, MX (our planned winter escape to the sun). Of course this is now. We are known to change our minds every once in a while:)

Our Family
We will start posting our adventures around the NW with family and our constant companion: Miss Arwen. Arwen is the cutest 13 year-old chocolate lab! My wife Ashley (the blond to my right) is an avid hiker and tries to hike at least once a week--usually with the local Mazama climbing club. I work full time commuting 10 miles to downtown Vancouver usually on one of my motorcycles (KLR 650 and a Harley Classic).

On weekends
we usually pack up Lauren (dark haired daughter far right); Arwen and Grandpa (far left) and head out either to the coast or to the mountains for some great adventure. Sometimes Ashley's daughter (my step-daughter:)) Camille (picture below) will join us as well. My son Justin (in picture above far right) has gone off to Phoenix, AZ with his buddy to find jobs and start college while living with Kirby's mom (for a short time).

The beginning of this year (2014) we purchased a small lot in Mexico in an eco-friendly area--about 15-minute walk from the center of town (Sayulita). Sayulita is around 20 miles North of Puerto Vallarta. I like to surf and Sayulita is a great little long-board beach. We still need to add water, septic, solar and a house, but all in time:)

We have an older 1990 Lance camper and a recently purchased (2007) 29 foot, Arctic Fox 5th Wheel. We chose the Artic Fox because of the aluminum, all-weather construction. This coming December \ January Ashley plans to become a camp host to try out our planned lifestyle. If the house sells this Spring, I am planning on placing the Lance camper at a local (PDX) RV resort (cost about $400 + electricity) while in the area for my work. I hopefully will only need to be in the office 2-3 days a week and work from the RV the other days.
